…so I end up with the VfL Bochum. …and I’m proud of it! We are the only team which can say that after 167 year after we get founded, the best times are still ahead! We reached the german cup final in 1968 and 1988. But… We played twice in the Europe-League… …we reached the best sixteen in 1997… …we supported with 15.000 supporters our team in Liege/Belgium in 2004, but again ‘but’…
…BUT (and this ‘but’ is different!) WE are proud of our boys! We are proud of the boys who left team and play now in world cup winning team for Germany! We love every goal, every victory… …and we love to see us every second saturday, the same familiar ugly faces and the same wishes to get successful one day, because the faith in that is so precious.
POINT BLANK: DIRTY OLD TOWN
I didn’t met my love by the gas works wall, I didn’t dreamed a dream by the old canal and I didn’t kissed my girl at the factory wall… …but all these impressions from Barnsley/Yorkshire were so familiar to me and I’m sure I did these things mentioned in “Dirty old Town’ sometime in my past in my hometown of Bochum.
The history of Barnsley is similar to the one of Bochum: closed down mining pits, second-league football, nice pubs and a bunch of great people.
