Tashkent / Uzbekistan / Central Asia
The Medressa Kukaldosh is one of the ancient architectural monuments in Tashkent. It was build in the period of 1551-1575 in a traditional oriental style.
From the earliest times the medressa (school for religion and science) was a centre of knowledge. Because of heavy earthquakes the building had to be restored several times.
The medressa was converted into a caravanserai in the 18th century, then it served as a fortress. In the 20th century it was a museum, first of atheism, and later of folk music. In the 1990s, the building was made a madrasah again. And finally in May 2019 Markus get the chance to visit this place.
